At the Altitude Centre, our experienced coaches specialize in designing tailored training programs that help you achieve peak performance for your chosen event.

We utilise TrainingPeaks, an industry leading platform that allows us to plan and monitor your training journey. You can easily view or download your bespoke training plan and also upload workouts from your smartwatch, ensuring that every session is tracked, analysed, and optimised for your goals.

Our programs are bespoke, crafted specifically to your needs, fitness level, and event requirements. Ideally, we begin with an initial consultation either by phone or in person at our London HQ. Your assigned coach will be in regular contact to montior your progress and answer any questions you have and incldes a monthly progress and planning meeting.

To complement your coaching and training we also offer a variety of testing services such as VO2 Max and Lactate Threshold assessments.

Meet James, your coach for running and mountaineering, and specialist in altitude and heat training

James, a graduate with both a Master’s and First Class Honours in Sport & Exercise Science from the University of Bath, specializes in coaching runners and high-altitude climbers. His expertise includes optimizing performance for athletes of all levels, from amateur runners to 8000m climbers.

As The Altitude Centre’s Lead Performance Specialist, James offers bespoke 1-2-1 coaching and collaborates with Premier League clubs to integrate altitude and heat training into elite-level sports. He’s currently pursuing a PhD in heat training for ultra runners, adding another layer to his ability to support athletes competing in extreme conditions.

With personal bests including a 5k in 15:42, a half marathon in 71:31, and a 2:39 marathon debut, James is no stranger to pushing performance limits.

Meet Nick, Your Coach for Cycling and Mountaineering, Altitude and Heat Training.

Nick, a Sport & Exercise Science graduate from Loughborough University, he coaches clients in cyclists, triathlon, and high-altitude mountaineering. He specializes in supporting clients based outside the UK, focusing on flash and rapid expeditions to 6000m, 7000m, and 8000m peaks.

Having worked with successful 8000m accents in 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024 he is well suited you help with goals.

Successes:

  • Over 45 successful 8000m+ expeditions, including 24 Everest summits and ascents of 13 out of the 14 8000m peaks.
  • More than 25 successful rapid/flash expeditions on 8000m+ climbs with a 95% success rate, including a remarkable 13-day Everest summit (2023) and an 8-day Manaslu summit (2022).
  • 100+ 6000m+ summits, with over 40 successful climbs on Aconcagua and more than 20 on Denali, including a record 5-day ascent.

12 Week Training Plan

This training plan is a 12 week progressive plan to get you ready for Everest Base Camp. It is split into 3, four week blocks. Each block has a specific purpose, and when we stack all three together you will have targeted all the necessary components of fitness for the climb ahead! Each 4 week block has 3 weeks of harder training and one de-load week to rest, recover, and allow your body to absorb the training you have put it through. The final de-load week is your taper before the climb!

The plan works on the assumption that you have access to a gym for training purposes.Please make sure you select the start date of this plan to be a Monday to ensure the longer sessions are schedualsed for the weekends. If this means you have a few days free at the end of the plan before you fly, make the most of the extra rest!
