South Pole 2013

This year, Walking with the Wounded has challenged three teams to trek to the South Pole in just 16 days.

The teams, made up of wounded service men and women, represent the UK, the USA and the Commonwealth (Australia and Canada). Supporting them on their challenge are Prince Harry and actor Dominic West (famous for his roles in The Wire and The Hour). Together, they will face temperatures of minus 35 degrees centigrade and altitudes of 2,835m as they trek across the coldest, driest and windiest place on earth.

The Altitude Centre are proud to support the cause again this year: In 2012, we supported Prince Harry and the wounded service men and women; this year, we also supplied Dominic West with an altitude tent to help him acclimatise ahead of the challenge.

‘The altitude tent was brilliant,’ he said. ‘I probably didn’t do as much preparation as I should’ve, but I feel the tent – which I slept in – helped me adapt. I definitely recommend it for anyone who is travelling to altitude, and hopefully, I won’t suffer at altitude whilst in the South Pole.’

The teams aim to reach the South Pole by 17th December: To support the cause, click here
