You probably remember reading about the study we are carrying out in collaboration with London South Bank University:
We are investigating the physiological (i.e., blood pressure, heart rate etc.) and psychological (i.e., emotions, affect etc.) responses of obese individuals to intermittent hypoxic exposure (IHE). IHE is essentially passively breathing low-oxygen (hypoxic) air interspersed with periods of normal air, repeated over 60 mins. Many recent studies have found this type of training to be beneficial for improving health in at-risk populations, and our preliminary findings are showing similar effects.

At the time of reading the advertisement, you may have thought that four visits lasting around 4 hours each time was quite a commitment. Our initial findings have shown that physiological and psychological responses tend to normalise within 1 hour after an IHE session, so we are now recruiting some more volunteers for this shorter study to obtain some more data.

So if you have a BMI between 30-40 kg/m2, are free from any known physiological, metabolic and cardiovascular diseases, and have 2 hours free a week for four weeks – this study is for you! Through participating, you’ll be able to improve your health, and identify the optimal IHE session for you; which you will then be able to carry out in our Trump Street chamber!
