For those that haven’t seen it, you can check out Santi Claus’ Christmas message to you all over on our Facebook, or our Instagram page.

The holiday season is made for spending time with friends and families, making memories that will last a life time. You won’t necessarily remember the session that you missed on Christmas eve, but you will remember the good times that you had with your friends, families and everyone else – so there is no need to feel guilty if you find yourself celebrating more than training – you certainly won’t be the only one!

But if you do find yourself wanting to squeeze a quick and easy session in between your wrapping, rushing and celebrating, we’ve got you covered:

Some simple bodyweight exercises

Bodyweight exercises are a really simple way of keeping yourself moving over Christmas. A few squats while you brush your teeth, or pick the kids up to place that star on top of the tree can go a long way.

If you get a spare 15-20 minutes, throw five of the below exercises together into a circuit as follows:

Work: 50s
Rest: 10s

Repeat three – four times through without rest!

1. Squats
2. Squat jumps
3. Lunges
4. Jumping Lunges
5. Wall-sit
6. Glute Bridges (single or two legged)
7. Donkey Kicks
8. Rope skipping
9. Single leg hops
10. In / Out Squats
11. Press ups (any variation)
12. Commandos
13. Plank
14. Mountain Climbers
15. V-Sits
16. Tricep Dips
17. Superman Extensions
18. Butterfly Kicks
19. Russian Twists
20. Burpees

Top tip: Try and choose five exercises that work the same muscle groups to get the most out of your quickfire session!

Getting outdoors

Walking is a great way to get the family involved, whether taking the dog for a walk, or just popping to the shops to get Santa’s mince pies, it’s a beautiful time of year to be outdoors, so if you can swap out the car keys for your running shoes, or your walking boots, and take your two feet for transport, it’s an easy way of keeping your legs engaged!

Recent research suggested that the slight change in energy expenditure to be gained from standing rather than sitting is pretty much all due an increase in fat oxidation (see here)- the power of being on your feet rather than your glutes hey!
